Apple Denies Allegations of Using Conflict Minerals
Apple has firmly denied allegations of using conflict minerals in its products. Earlier this year, the tech giant instructed its suppliers to stop sourcing minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda. This directive applies to tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold, as the region continues to experience escalating conflict, according to a report by Reuters.
Apple issued the directive to its suppliers after a criminal complaint was filed against the company in France and Belgium. The complaint, raised by the government of Congo, accused Apple of using conflict minerals in its international supply chain.
In response, an Apple spokesperson stated, “We uphold the highest standards in sourcing minerals for our supply chain and have taken strict measures to avoid the use of conflict minerals from such regions.”
This decision has sparked significant global debate over mineral sourcing practices and the ethical responsibilities of technology companies worldwide.
